Privacy Policy
1. Overview
This Privacy Policy describes how Jeff Marshall ("I", "me") collects, uses, and handles information in connection with TagVault ("the Software"). I take your privacy seriously. TagVault is designed to process your music library locally on your device.
2. Information I Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Email address — provided at time of purchase via Gumroad, used for license delivery and support
- License key — generated at purchase, stored locally on your device
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
TagVault does not collect telemetry, usage analytics, or crash reports. The following information is processed locally and is never transmitted to me:
- Your music file metadata (titles, artists, albums, file paths)
- Analysis results (BPM, key, energy, confidence scores)
- Library structure and folder organisation
2.3 Third-Party API Queries
To identify and enrich your music metadata, TagVault queries the following third-party services on your behalf. These queries may include track titles, artist names, and audio fingerprints:
- AcoustID — audio fingerprint identification (acoustid.org)
- MusicBrainz — metadata enrichment (musicbrainz.org)
- Discogs — release data and label information (discogs.com)
- iTunes Search API — metadata enrichment (apple.com)
- Deezer — metadata enrichment (deezer.com)
- Last.fm — genre and metadata enrichment (last.fm)
Each of these services has its own privacy policy. I recommend reviewing their policies if you have concerns about data sharing with these services.
3. How I Use Information
The email address you provide at purchase is used solely to:
- Deliver your license key
- Respond to support requests
- Send important product updates (you may opt out at any time)
I do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
4. Data Storage
TagVault stores the following data locally on your device:
- ~/.tagvault-cache.db — stores metadata results to avoid redundant API queries
- ~/.tagvault-license — stores your activation status
- ~/.tagvault-logs/ — stores operational logs for debugging purposes
None of this data is transmitted to me or any third party. You may delete these files at any time without affecting your purchased license.
5. Gumroad
Purchases are processed by Gumroad, Inc. Your payment information and purchase records are handled by Gumroad under their Privacy Policy (gumroad.com/privacy). I receive only your email address and purchase confirmation from Gumroad.
6. Children's Privacy
TagVault is not directed at children under the age of 13. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact me at jmarshall@consultant.com.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Request access to the personal information I hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your information
- Opt out of product update communications
To exercise these rights, contact jmarshall@consultant.com.
8. Changes to This Policy
I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updated versions will be posted at the product page. Your continued use of TagVault after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
